TV’s are so bulky, not quite portable and can’t be carried for trips or camping. I came across the High Peak Mini Projector ad on TikTok and as a movie fanatic, I immediately placed an order on highpeakco.com which is the brands official website.
In this review, I’ll be sharing my experience with this projector, how it has served me and also help you decide if it is worth buying or not.
What is the High Peak Mini Projector
The High Peak Projector is marketed as a compact, slick and affordable projector that is able to project screens up to 170 and transform your movie nights into a cinematic experience. It also claims to have a High-Definition [HD] resolution. It is marketed as an affordable alternative to traditional TV’s. It also touts its ability to connect to almost anything ranging from the Bluetooth dongle, USB, HDMI, wireless connectivity and AV connections. A unit of this projector goes for the sum of $199.97.
This sounds like the best portable device but some of their claims aren’t exactly true nor is there any backing or certification for them.
This projector is probably best only for kids. Although it does project an image that can be seen, the quality isn’t exactly the best so if you are looking for something to watch your films/Netflix/play games then this isn’t the projector for you.
How to use the High Peak Mini Projector
To set up and use this projector you only have to take a few steps
- Charge the battery: As is with all battery supported gadgets, I made to fully charge my projector before using it.
- Connect your device: I then connected it to my laptop. There are different other options which includes USB, HDMI, or wireless connectivity to connect your phone, tablet, or laptop to the projector.
- Select the input source: I choosed the wireless input source on the projector. Other options are the USB and HDMI.
- Adjust the focus: I used the focus wheel to adjust the image clarity.
- Position the projector: I placed the projector at a comfortable distance from my wall.
- Prepare the projection background: I pinned a big white cloth that was wrinkle free on my wall in order to help the project reflect effectively. A projection screen is much preferably as it was made specifically for this task.
- Start projecting: I pressed the power button to start projecting my movie.
- Adjusting the volume: This can be done by using the built-in speaker or connecting to external speakers for better sound quality.
Sharing My Experience using the High Peak Mini Projector
Connectivity: This product failed to connect to my Bluetooth and had issues connecting to any mobile device in the house. I was only finally able to connect it to my laptop after downloading a shady app that they recommended. This was a hassle.
Image quality: The image quality was a major disappointment to say the least. The images are blurry and only the center has a little bit of definition. The screen was also dim and I couldn’t manage to make it brighter.
Quality: The overall quality is alright but barely three weeks of my using this product some spots started appearing on the projected images and wouldn’t go off even after cleaning the screen. This made watching movies quite distracting.
Sound: The sound bar/built in speaker started failing after only a couple uses and i was unable to connect it to any external speakers no matter what I did.
Display: The picture occasionally turned on and off and I’ll have to unplug it for a while before it settles back to normal. Having to get down from my bed every now and then to unplug this projector was a real bother.
Durability: I will peg this products lifespan at 6 months at most. Not even up to the one-year warranty the brand claims. With how many faults it has already developed in under one month I doubt it will survive any much longer.
Refund policy: So far, I’m unaware if they actually grant refunds as I’ve yet to be replied to after asking for a refund.
Another key point is the fact that this projector only works well in absolute darkness. If there’s any other light source the images look really faint.
The drop-shipping Scam behind the High Peak Mini Projector
The High Peak Mini Projecto presents like a drop-shipping or affiliate marketing operation where people source for cheap and low-quality products from bulk suppliers on platforms like Temu, Aliexpress and even on Amazon only to rebrand it, create fascinating contents about the knock off products.
They then create fancy websites and creates ads that link directly to these websites. where they offer crazy discounts and promises of charge-back if the products are unsatisfactory and then sell these products sometimes for 10x the original cost.
These products are not different to the ones sold on Alibaba for $10 dollars per unit.
What I Wished I Knew Before Buying This Product
Taking a better look into the brand i discovered something that would have changed my mind if i had known about them earlier.
Over-the-Top Marketing Claims: Promises like “the best projector on the market” and “you’ll throw away your TV” seem exaggerated and designed to create hype.
Stock Images: Product images on the website appear to be generic or reused from other sites, raising doubts about the product’s authenticity. This is a typical bait-and-switch technique.
Suspiciously Positive Reviews: The website features only glowing reviews with no flaws mentioned, while independent platforms reveal overwhelmingly negative feedback.
False Advertising: Features like screen mirroring and app functionality often don’t work as claimed, leaving buyers disappointed. This product relies heavily on exaggerating its capability in order to manipulate people into buying it. Their advertisement is solely based on false promises which the product cannot live up to.
Poor Product Quality: Reports of dim, blurry projections, and unreliable hardware suggest the projector doesn’t meet basic standards.
Faulty or Missing Products: Some customers received broken products, while others didn’t receive anything at all.
Limited contact information: There is limited to no information about the company behind this product. There is only an email address [[email protected]] and no mobile numbers or live-chat option. No listed physical address or company name.
Suspicious behavior: The projector is not listed available on Amazon or any other prominent e-commerce store. Similar products are listed but with different product names
Limited online presence: The absence of any social media pages is a huge red flag that should be taken seriously. Every reputable brand has social media accounts as a way to foster long lasting relationships with their clients while promoting sales.
What to do if you already got Scammed
Contact your bank: Contact your bank or credit card company immediately to cancel your card. Request for a chargeback on the grounds of fraud and if unsuccessful, consider requesting arbitration from your credit card issuer to recover your funds. It’s essential to reiterate and resubmit evidence to support your claim, as this can improve your chances of getting refunded.
Check credit reports: Request credit reports to check for any accounts opened fraudulently using your information. Consider placing a credit freeze if advised.
File a complaint: Submit reports about the scam to the FTC, BBB [Better Business Bureau], and other consumer protection sites. You should also provide all relevant records.
Reviews: Leave online reviews and also inform your family and friends to stop other people from falling victim to the same scam.
