I bought the Solara Safetyedge Razor, so you don’t have to

By Nora Nov20,2024

As someone prone to razor bumps from shaving and sensitive to the pain caused by waxing, I’m always on the lookout for products that will make my hair removal journey easier. I saw an ad on Facebook about the Solara Safetyedge Razor with great claims and I hurriedly clicked the link which took me to the website trysolara.store where I placed an order for two sets.

In this review, I’ll be sharing my experience with this projector, how it has served me and also help you decide if it is worth buying or not.

What is the Solara Safetyedge Razor

The Solara Safetyedge Razor is marketed as an eco-friendly razor that promises a smooth bump-free shave while being kind to the environment. It promises to razor bumps, nicks and ingrown hairs. It claims to be clinically tested and recommended by dermatologists however there has been to certification to that effect.

It is sold for $39.99 after a 50% discount. Each unit includes 40 blades that can last a minimum of 2 years, plus a free skin exfoliation glove.

The website was created on October 5th, 2024, and the domain will expire on the 5th of October 2025. Their email address is [email protected] but no phone numbers to be seen on their website.

How to use the Solara Safetyedge Razor

To use the razor there are certain recommended steps to follow

  • Prepare your skin: I made sure my skin was wet with warm water then I applied a shaving cream.
  • Razor positioning: I held the razor at a shallow angle with the safety edge facing the direction of my hair growth.
  • Shave: I gently glided the razor over my skin, moving in the direction of hair growth. Applying light pressure and letting the razor do the work.
  • Focus on one area: I shaved one leg at a time.
  • Rinse and repeat: I rinsed the razor and my skin with warm water. I repeated the whole process again until I was satisfied.
  • Clean up: When I felt satisfied with the work, I had done I rinsed the razor and my skin with cold water to remove any remaining hair and the shaving cream.

Sharing My Experience using the Solara Safetyedge Razor

My experience with this product has been nothing short of painful and disappointment.

Sharpness: This razor was dull and misaligned and despite how careful I was, I ended up with more nicks and cuts than I like to count.

Blade: On my second use, I decided to change the blade, and it was surprisingly a tough feat. You have to adjust it slowly before tightening it if not it will be lopsided with some parts of the blade barely visible.

Quality: The blades kept breaking and I finally had to use a regular blade I had at home, and this worked far much better than the Solara blades.

Durability: After a couple uses, with a different blade of course, this product started fading/peeling off which made it look cheap and plastic-like. The gold-finishing which was one of the reasons why I purchased this product was now a thing of the past.

Result: This product reminded me of why I hated razors. I had razor burns after using this and after about a week the ingrown hairs started popping up more than usual.

Refund policy: While I have trashed the opened set, I tried to return the second one only to be told I will have to cover for the shipping cost. I will be contacting my bank to make a refund.

The razor rusted despite the fact that I properly dried it after every use and stored it in a cool dry place as recommended.

The Scam behind the Solara Safetyedge Razor

The Solara Safetyedge Razor is an unbranded mass-produced product available of different e-commerce stores. Affiliate marketers and drop-shippers buy these cheap razors, rebrand and repackage them and promote them as new innovative products online. It has no custom branding or design.

Razors very identical to the Solara are available under different names on sites like Temu and Alibaba. These generic razors cost under $4 per unit when purchased wholesale and the resold at exorbitant prices.

These products are not different to the ones sold on Alibaba for $4 per unit.

What I Wished I Knew Before Buying This Product

Deceptive Marketing Claims: Promises like “closest shave ever”, “Tackles ingrown hairs and skin irritation” are false as this product is greatly lacking. It doesn’t give a close shave, nor does it prevent ingrown hairs.

Stock Images: Product images on the website appear to be generic or reused from other sites, raising doubts about the product’s authenticity. This is a typical bait-and-switch technique.

Suspiciously Positive Reviews: The website features only glowing reviews with no flaws mentioned, while independent platforms like Amazon reveal negative feedback.

Limited contact information: There is limited to no information about the company behind this product. There is only an email address [[email protected]] and no mobile numbers or live-chat option. No listed physical address or company name.

Suspicious behavior: Identical products are listed on different websites but with different product names

Limited online presence: The absence of any social media pages is a huge red flag that should be taken seriously. Every reputable brand has social media accounts as a way to foster long lasting relationships with their clients while promoting sales.

What to do if you already got Scammed

Contact your bank: Contact your bank or credit card company immediately to cancel your card. Request for a chargeback on the grounds of fraud and if unsuccessful, consider requesting arbitration from your credit card issuer to recover your funds. It’s essential to reiterate and resubmit evidence to support your claim, as this can improve your chances of getting refunded.

Check credit reports: Request credit reports to check for any accounts opened fraudulently using your information. Consider placing a credit freeze if advised.

File a complaint: Submit reports about the scam to the FTC, BBB [Better Business Bureau], and other consumer protection sites. You should also provide all relevant records.

Reviews: Leave online reviews and also inform your family and friends to stop other people from falling victim to the same scam.

Conclusion

Coupled with my personal experience, the Solara SafetyEdge Razor has many red flags. The company information is unclear, and the product is unoriginal. Also, it doesn’t have certification from trusted organizations. It is advisable to add a few more bucks and buy from verified brands.
