I Tried the Horsepower Giddy Up Grill Brush – My Honest Take After a Month of Grilling (Review)

By Nora Apr23,2025

I love a good backyard barbecue, but what I don’t love? Scrubbing the grill afterward. So when I came across the Horsepower Giddy Up Grill Brush, I was intrigued. It promises cordless convenience, bristle-free safety, and even has an LED light to help you see what you’re doing. It sounds like every griller’s dream but is it actually worth the money? So I did the only normal thing, I bought it!

What Is the Horsepower Giddy Up Grill Brush?

The Horsepower Giddy Up is a cordless, rechargeable grill brush with a rotating stainless steel cleaning roller instead of traditional wire bristles. It’s marketed as being safer (no loose bristles to swallow), more efficient (350 RPM spinning action), and modern (LED light, ergonomic handle). You charge it, turn it on, and the brush does the scrubbing for you.

It’s a pretty slick-looking gadget, but I’ve learned that sleek design doesn’t always equal performance.

Why I Decided to Try It

Cleaning my grill has always been the worst part of grilling season. I’ve used everything from cheap wire brushes to the scrunched-up foil hack. Most brushes either wear out quickly or leave behind metal bits — a serious safety concern. When I saw that the Giddy Up brush was bristle-free and motorized, I figured, why not give it a shot?

Plus, I won’t lie, the name “Horsepower Giddy Up” kind of made me laugh, so points for branding.

My Experience Using the Horsepower Giddy Up Brush

From the moment I unboxed it, the brush felt solid and not flimsy like the cheap ones at big box stores. The stainless steel roller looked like it meant business, and the LED light is surprisingly useful for evening clean-ups (I grill a lot at night).

Charging it was simple as it used the standard USB, and it held power for a good while. The first time I used it, I noticed it really scrubs. Like, aggressively. It’s got a decent motor, and the spinning brush made fast work of the grates. I used it on a gas grill with moderate grease and char buildup, and within a minute or two, the worst of it was gone.

But here’s the thing: it doesn’t get into crevices easily. Corners and between-grate spots still needed manual scrubbing. And if you have a larger grill, it can feel a bit bulky to maneuver for longer sessions. The roller can also splash grease if you’re not careful not a huge deal, but worth mentioning.

Also, despite the claim that you don’t need to preheat, I found it works much better when the grill is warm. On a cold grill, it kind of just smears the grease instead of lifting it.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Actually is powerful and cleans most messes quickly
  • Safer than wire bristles, no risk of loose metal
  • Rechargeable + cordless = convenient
  • LED light is a surprisingly handy touch

Cons:

  • Doesn’t clean corners or grooves very well
  • Works best on a warm grill, despite claims
  • A bit heavy and awkward for smaller hands
  • At $80+, it’s not a budget buy

Red Flags & Skepticism

  • Marketing vs. Reality: It promises “no preheating required,” but in practice, a warm grill really helps.
  • Longevity unknown: I haven’t used it for an entire season yet, so time will tell if the motor holds up.
  • Limited versatility: Works best on standard grates but not as effective on ceramic or cast iron surfaces.

Alternatives

If you want other options that don’t require a power source:

  • GrillArt Bristle-Free Brush
  • Kona Safe/Clean Grill Brush

Conclusion: Would I Recommend It?

If you grill often and hate the cleanup, this is a fun, helpful gadget. It won’t totally replace manual scrubbing, but it does cut your cleanup time. That said, it’s not a magic bullet, and I wouldn’t call it essential for casual grillers especially at the price point.

I’ll keep using mine (especially for quick cleanups between grilling rounds), but if it breaks down next summer? I won’t be heartbroken.
