Are Elves On The Shelf Real Or Fake?

By Nora Dec6,2024

The Elves on the Shelf are fake. While they’re not technically real, they’re still a beloved Christmas tradition that adds magic and laughter during the holiday season The general story is that these elves are sent by Santa Claus to watch over kids and report back to him on their behavior.

Where This Fun Holiday Tradition Came From

The tradition of Elf on the Shelf is based off a children’s story book written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell in 2005 called The Elf on the Shelf: Christmas Tradition. The story is that the Christmas elf is sent by Santa Claus to watch over children and report back to the North Pole each night. Since then, parents around the world have adopted this as a Christmas tradition.

Each night, parents move the elves to a new spot, creating a fun scavenger hunt for kids to find them in the morning. This has made kids believe that the story is real as the elf is never in the same place the next morning.
