Brightline Data Security Settlement Notice Legit?

The Brightline Data Security Settlement letter with a link to brightlinedatasecuritysettlement.com is legit. It’s not a phishing scam as you feared. Your device’s anti-virus program might tell you not to trust the website on the notice, this is because it was recently created.

Brightline is a med-tech company that provides behavioral healthcare services for children and their families.

Whats the Brightline Data Security Incident Settlement About?

It’s a Class Action that alleges that on or about January 30, 2023, unauthorized individuals accessed computer software utilized by Brightline. The software contained Private Information of approximately one million individuals.

Though Brightline maintains it has defenses to the Action, A proposed Settlement in the amount of $7,000,000.00 has been reached in a class action lawsuit known as Terrance Rosa et al. v. Brightline, Inc., Case No. 24-md-03090-RAR, S.D. Fla. (“Action”).

Benefits;

  •  Cash compensations of up to $5,000 (if you provide reasonable documented losses related to the Data Incident)
  • A flat cash payment in the amount of $100.00
  • A California Statutory Awards of $100 (if applicable)
  • Two or three years of free Credit Monitoring offered by Brightline

 Note; There could be a pro-rata increase or decrease on the amount depending upon how many people filed a valid claim.

What Steps Should You Take?

You could do any of the following if you or your ward received the settlement notice;

Submit a Valid Claim Form to get a Cash Payment

File an objection and explain to the Court why you think the Settlement should not be approved (this should be done no later than January 9, 2025)

Opt-Out of the Settlement ( No Cash payment or any benefit)
