Is Instagram Bipa Settlement Scam or Legit?

Today June 7th 2024, the payment settlement for Instagram BIPA Lawsuit which affects Illinois residents was sent out. The email which contains a link directing you to claim your payment settlement, either via virtual card, Zelle or Apple is legit.

If you received the email, it means you submitted a claim last year, and had chosen to receive your payment settlement either via electronic payment or check.

Whats the Instagram Bipa Settlement About?

The Instagram Bipa Settlement is a class-action lawsuit which claims Meta ( owner of Instagram and Facebook) violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). It allegedly did so by collecting and storing biometric information without using the proper disclosures and consent agreements.

Though Meta didn’t admit any wrongdoing, they agreed to a $68.5 million settlement to resolve the BIPA class action lawsuit.

Eligibility and Payout Amount

Those eligible for the Instagram Settlement payout are those who used Instagram while in Illinois between August 10, 2015 & August 16, 2023, and submitted a claim form before the deadline 27th September 2023.

Presently, members of the class action lawsuit have received a single payout of about $32 per head.
