I came across the Pyrex Heater on Facebook. The picture was of Elon Musk holding the heater and the writeup claimed that it was invented by NASA in the International Space Station. It claimed it instantly heat up the room using 90% lesser energy. I was intrigued so I placed an order for a unit on elontechheater.com.
In this review, I’ll be sharing my experience with this heater and helping you decide if it is worth buying or not.
What is the Pyrex Heater
The Pyrex Heater is heavily advertised as a product made by “Tom” who is a top engineer at the Space Station. It is claimed to be a ground-breaking device that serves as a quick and budget friendly heating solution. The ads claim that it was made/built with space grade technology and provides fast warmth once plugged into a socket. It is also claimed to reduce energy cost by 85%. Coupled with all these, they also claim to offer a “free heater’ upon purchase.
While these all sounds fantastic, most of these claims doesn’t check out. For instance, the claim that this was made by NASA but yet not one single media outlet carried this news information, and this product just happens to be missing on Tesla’s official website.
The claim to warm up rooms with a third of the electrical cost required to carry a traditional heater thereby saving about $1000 yearly sounds far-fetched. Details and actual technological facts about this heater are not available anywhere. There is also no certification and this all points to the falsification of most claims made.
How to use Pyrex Heater
Despite the fact that this product didn’t come with a user manual, it is quite easy to use. To use the Pyrex heater, simply:
- Plug it into a standard power outlet in a room of your choice.
- Adjust the temperature setting to your liking. It has three adjustments. The high, medium and low.
- Select your preferred mode.
- Enjoy the warm and cozy heat.
- Unplug or turn off the socket after use.
Sharing My Experience using the Pyrex Heater
The delivery of my unit was delayed, but it finally arrived, and I was excited to try it out.
Heating: Pyrex heating was totally nonexistent. After running it at the highest temperature for a couple of hours I did not notice any heat difference in my room. Only upon standing right next to it do you feel any warmth.
Quality: It was advertised as lightweight, but it came looking and feeling like plastic. The finishing looked inferior as if it was mass produced with no attention to details.
Noise: This product isn’t quiet as claimed. I couldn’t sleep with its constant whirling noise and had to turn it off at night which defeated my purpose of buying it in the first place.
Durability: After a couple days of using Pyrex, it started having a burning smell and I had to discontinue using it immediately. I want a heated home and not a burning one.
Refund policy: Initially they claimed they have a return and refund policy but after purchasing this product and writing several mails to them they finally told me that I would be solely responsible for the cost of shipping this unit back to China. They refused to process any refunds.
The drop-shipping Scam behind the Pyrex Heater
The Pyrex presents like a drop-shipping or affiliate marketing operation where people source for cheap and low-quality products from bulk suppliers on platforms like Temu, Aliexpress and even on Amazon only to rebrand it, create fascinating contents about the knock off products.
They then create fancy websites and creates ads that link directly to these websites. where they offer crazy discounts and promises of charge-back if the products are unsatisfactory and then sell these products sometimes for 10x the original cost.
They further fabricate their reviews, photoshop prominent celebrities into images with these products then claim endorsements from prominent media outlets all in a bid to manipulate people into buying these products.
These products are not different to the ones sold on Alibaba for $5 dollars per unit.
What I Wished I Knew Before Buying This Product
After my experience with this product, I decided to carry out a bit of research on the brand and I found a lot of issues that would have dissuaded me from buying it.
False advertisement: The Pyrex Heater is a cheap massively produced in China product sold on Alibaba but advertised as a brand-new invention. This product relies heavily on exaggerating its capability in order to manipulate people into buying it. Their advertisement is solely based on false promises which the product cannot live up to.
Deceptive marketing: Marketed as a product that heats up spaces in under ten minutes, but this outrageous claim has been debunked by independent testers.
Generic product images: Images used on the brands website can be found on other websites and e-commerce stores. This shows that the product isn’t originally theirs to begin with. This is a standard switch-and-bait technique.
Aggressive upselling: Despite the initial 50% discount, discounts are still offered on the checkout page. You’re blasted with messages to buy more heaters for even more discounts.
Limited contact information: There is limited to no information about the company behind this product. There is only an email address and mobile numbers but no live-chat option. No listed physical address or company name.
Suspicious behavior: The heater is not listed available on Amazon or any other prominent e-commerce store.
Reviews: Too many positive reviews on their website but none on amazon or any other website points to the fact that these reviews are fabricated.
Refund policy: Initially they claim they have a return and refund policy but after purchasing this product, they refuse to issue any refunds and tell the customer that the shipping cos of the returning product will be carried by the customer, and this serves as a discouragement as the shipping fee back to China is quite exorbitant.
Limited online presence: The absence of any social media pages is a huge red flag that should be taken seriously. Every reputable brand has social media accounts as a way to foster long lasting relationships with their clients while promoting sales.
False claims of endorsements: The Pyrex claimed to have been made in the International Space Station and to have been enorser by both Musk and Gaines.
What to do if you already got Scammed
Contact your bank: Contact your bank or credit card company immediately to cancel your card. Request for a chargeback on the grounds of fraud and if unsuccessful, consider requesting arbitration from your credit card issuer to recover your funds. It’s essential to reiterate and resubmit evidence to support your claim, as this can improve your chances of getting refunded.
Check credit reports: Request credit reports to check for any accounts opened fraudulently using your information. Consider placing a credit freeze if advised.
File a complaint: Submit reports about the scam to the FTC, BBB [Better Business Bureau], and other consumer protection sites. You should also provide all relevant records.
Reviews: Leave online reviews and also inform your family and friends to stop other people from falling victim to the same scam.
Alternatives
If youre looking for good space, it is advisable to stick to trusted brands. Below is a list of verified heaters you can buy instead of the Pyrex Heater:
De’Longhi TRD40615T
Vornado VH200
Lasko 754200 Ceramic Heater
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Pyrex Heater isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It isn’t equipped with the capacity to heat an entire room especially in extreme cold weathers. The advertisement claims and the Elon Musk endorsements are faked to deceive people into buying this mediocre product.
