Watch out for text messages from unknown senders asking you to donate money at dermturnout.io in support for Kamala Harris. The text message which start with a plea is a political donation text scam. Read on to find out details of this scam and how to stay protected;

What is The DemTurnout.io Text Message Scam?

The DemTurnout.io scam is an election scam from fraudsters attempting to get your money, personal information, and credit card details. The text message often looks harmless;

Begging on my hands and knees; We need 1 more gift to boost voter turnout for Kamala! Donate $20=$140! https://go.demturnout.io/

Beware, fraudsters are behind the text messages, not actual candidates, or campaigns.

Warning signs –

  •  There is no tangible information on the site about who they are, affiliates, organization and candidates.
  •  Open Secrets has no info about demturnout.io on their Democratic Turnout Project PAC profile
  • The website was registered on September 2024 by someone who has kept his/her information redacted for privacy
  • There’s no contact details on the website

How The Scam Works

Once the recipient respond to the text by clicking on the link, they’d be taken to a site that would ask for their personal information like name, email, address, e.t.c. By submitting the your personal information, fraudsters are gaining access to it could be used down the line in an identity theft situation.

There’s also a likelihood of credit card fraud when making donation. Your credit card details could be stolen and used for unauthorized transactions. There’s also a likelihood of recurring donation charges. There’ a tiny box on demturnout.io that you must uncheck to make sure it’s not a recurring donation
